Breastfeeding Awareness Contest

We celebrate the cause as the usual practise we have been doing for over years since we started out 9 years ago. Breastfeeding has been the most natural ways for the mother to bond with a child irregardless if you are a working mom, stay home mom, or work at home mom - breastfeeding aides in a lot of bonding factors.

Below are some information on Breastfeeding to refresh your memories be it a first-time mother, 2nd birth and so on....

BREASTFEEDING LOWER RISK OF BREAST CANCER.

Breastfeeding Lower The Risk of Breast Cancer

We all know that breast-feeding is good for the baby. It provides much-needed antibodies to lower a baby's risk of diarrhea, ear infections, and bacterial meningitis, as well as preventing overfeeding, which could stave off obesity later in life. But is it good for moms? That's a difficult question to answer. Some studies suggest it may help prevent bone loss later in life and possibly lower the risk of ovarian cancer by delaying the onset of menstruation after pregnancy. Now, an intriguing new study out today in the Archives of Internal Medicine shows that it could help some women avoid breast cancer early in life. Breast-feeding conferred nearly a 60 percent lower risk of premenopausal breast cancer on women who had a family history of the disease.

There are, though, a lot of caveats to this study. First of all, it shows a protective effect only against breast tumors that develop before menopause. Yet the vast majority of breast cancers occur well beyond a woman's 40s. What's more, the study of 60,000 nurses who had given birth found that the protective effect extended only to women already at elevated risk of breast cancer—namely, those who had a close relative (mother, sister, grandmother) who'd been diagnosed with the disease. Women with no family history of breast cancer didn't get any extra protection by breast-feeding.

Still, the study offers some interesting take-home messages. The researchers point out that the breast cancer preventive benefits of breast-feeding compare similarly to the protective effects of the antiestrogen drug tamoxifen, which many high-risk women take to prevent breast cancer. What's more, it didn't really matter how long a woman breast-fed, whether it was one child who was nursed for two months, for instance, or three children nursed for three years. "These data suggest that women with a family history of breast cancer should be strongly encouraged to breast-feed," the authors write.

Certainly, women are already getting that message. Nearly three quarters of new moms breast-feed at some point during the first six months of their babies' lives. That compares with fewer than 20 percent of moms in the 1950s, many of whom were told by pediatricians that formula was just as good as breast milk. The American Academy of Pediatrics now strongly urges women to breast-feed exclusively for the first six months and continue breast-feeding, with supplemental food, for the first year or more.

The researchers were able to rule out body weight as a potential factor in their findings. That's important because excess weight has been associated with an increased breast cancer risk. The fact that women who breast-fed for more than a year were less likely to be overweight than other mothers may further protect them against breast cancer.

One particularly interesting finding is that women who took drugs to dry up their milk seemed to be similarly protected from breast cancer. These drugs prevent engorgement of the breasts, which can cause inflammation of the breast tissue thought to trigger the growth of cancer cells. The researchers speculate that taking the drugs may stop that inflammation. Women who breast-feed and wean their babies gradually would also avoid this engorgement. Postpartum women who opt not to breast-feed and don't take milk-suppressing drugs usually experience painful engorgement that lasts for days before the milk dries up.

I have vivid memories of my own experiences with engorgement after I abruptly stopped nursing my 5-month-old daughter. Before I decided to call it quits, I had been pumping all her milk for several weeks because she needed to eat sitting upright owing to reflux, a gastrointestinal condition common in many babies that caused her to vomit after every meal. Now I wonder whether I caused some inflammatory changes by allowing my breasts to become engorged. I'm not too worried since I don't have a strong family history of breast cancer, but I do think that nursing moms should ask their doctors about this study finding if they're thinking of stopping cold turkey to, say, head back to work. It may be safer to taper off over several weeks—and far more comfortable, too.

If you need breastfeeding counseling or support, we do it onsite with a top-body massage along with a baby massage at a small fee. Otherwise, breastfeeding support can be done virtually by inbox/Facebook or Email:mymums@mymumsworld.com at no charges at all.

2nd-Q of the year.

Finally we have ended our financial year for 2010. Its a lot of figures to finish, and I must thank my new PA for her diligent work with all those lagging book-keeping since my last part-timer left. I must say I am all the need to have things the perfect way, the correct way that I want things to be but nonetheless, I am dis-organised in such that my home-office table is hell out of a mess! Well, I still do not wish to deny that I lost my things in between those stacks of work, because, I simply did find my way there!

Well, the year-end closing was great this year as Gross Sales is still within 5-figure and in fact it went up by at least 10% with short work week accomplished.
I am hoping that with new collaboration, project-run-away and Business Development Department closing more deals on development, we are all the way to victory.

I am glad that after years of concentrating and effort put in to build a good profile on our Postnatal Massage Services and Breastfeeding Counseling, taking up the role as a Merchandiser and Business Developer is afterall - not a bad idea at all. I love the role which I have yearned years back during my late teens years.

Thank You all for believing in us. I have more in-store for previews giveaways and lots more refreshing ideas coming on! Lookout for it!

Usher to the New Year 2011: Whats in-store in the year of the Bunny...

The Year is here again and everyone is busy as a bee. I must admit, busy is for everyone in the household especially parents and mothers. I hope everyone out there is having fun and stress-free entering the Rabbit year and the New Year 2011.

Well, here we am not excluded from the hectic and new schedule preparing for MyMumsWorld (S) new updates, whats in store for all valued customers this year, new collaborations with new partners, a more better service aligned with our charges and motto. And not forgetting, networking more on our side to build a better WAHMs environment for ourselves and our dedicated freelance therapists.

One word for sure, being a Work-At-Home-Mum (WAHM) has never been better than anything else. This is my personal experience. No doubt there is ups and downs which is very normal to all who decide to work from home at the comfort of your cozy crib accompanied by your loved ones. Basically, more time with my children putting aside the fixed monetary returns. I must admit, I am only putting 70% of my attention on managing MMW so that I can have enough time for my family. What I can say is, earning a 3 figure or during hardworking days, a 4 figure will be more than contented. Why do I say so? It is because, if I were to hit the 100% ceiling of expansion, I will have more loads of burden and forgetting my main reason to be a Stay-At-home-Mum (SAHM). Family is still my main priority. But of course, if its possible I will want to have more time with my family and earn a 5 figure paycheck at the end of the month!

How about you? At MyMumsWorld (S), we conduct affordable basic workshops for mothers to learn the basic knowledge of body-massage, to be able to work at your own timing or take up a freelance project whenever you want to and willing to.
At MMW, we practise looking out for each other. No doubt there is no contract attached after your workshop completed, here we offer you jobs and create ones within your comfortable timing. We hope to help create a job opportunity for mothers who thinks alike.

Send in your queries, if you are interested to stay home and work at the same time or you simply wants to acquire a skills, which will benefit you in the long run.

For SAHMs who wish to be a WAHMs, I have something to share too before I move on to another topic, that is the choice of business that you will decide and wanting to start with:

- decide your priority why self-employed
- what type of business
- self target
- do something based on passion & knowledge
- start small but consistently
- sell something which you are familiar with
- be positive
- registered your business is recommended for your profile
- always take in criticism positively

There are more for me to share, I will try to do so in the near future!!

On ushering the New Year, apart from our updates from MyMumsWorld (S), I am busy and will be occupied with my eldest son in P2, my younger son enters his K2, final year before he starts on his P1 education. Finally, Lil' Furqan has started attending his Playgroup session on a daily routine. I must admit, everything needs attention physically and financially. All drained!
This year, what my dear husband & myself were hoping that our second son, Khair will get to enter primary school at Madrasah Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiah together with his eldest brother, Sufi. Nevertheless, we believe in the mission of the school and most of all, our kids are the ones whom preferred the choice of their school. May all hopes and dreams be accomplished.

For now, I have to get away with planning the week ahead with the kids school itinerary, Arab tuition for Sufi, Phonics for Khair and also more love for Furqan! Phewww! Unconditionally!

All the best to all. Amin.
